ABOUT
LCRLUSM
The research on liquid crystals has undergone steady advancement ever since the LCD industry was born in the 1960s. As part of the revolutionary process in the LCD industry, the molecular design and material chemistry have significantly changed over the last two decades, making molecules substantially more complex and applicable for this industry. This document is organized to highlight the various systems of LCs being studied or reported by the USM Liquid Crystals Research Laboratory and also make an excursion into tales of the researchers who graduated from or associated with this laboratory. The system encompasses single and multi-block rod-like molecules before advancing into dimers and oligomers. Further discussion will be based on discotic and/or star-shaped liquid crystals alongside with the molecules possessing self-assembled structures.
